Annual EventsHOMECOMING: Homecoming is the fall event every year at Horace Mann which gives a chance for students, faculty and alumni to come back to Horace Mann to watch the fall sports teams play, see student artwork, and enjoy each other's company. Homecoming 2000 is on September 16th. GO LIONS! SENIOR ABSURDITY DAY: Senior Absurdity Day takes place on Halloween. The entire senior class comes to school dressed in various costumes- usually outrageous ones- and breakfast is served for seniors in the faculty dining room. TRASHKETBALL: Trashketball is an intra-mural activity that takes place during meetings periods in the second trimester. Trashketball is similar to basketball except with much less stringent rules. This activity is open only to Juniors and Seniors and faculty. BOOK DAY:Each year a committee of faculty and students selects a book for the school to read. A day in late winter or early spring is a time when the Horace Mann community has read a single book and meet together for an entire day of workshops, exhibits, discussions and lectures. Students and faculty follow a special schedule of assemblies and presentations designed around the major themes of the book. Sessions are created collaboratively by students and faculty members. Many faculty members incorporate the book into their regular classes in order for students to be prepared to participate. MARATON SOFTBALL: Marathon Softball is a 24-hour, student-run event that takes place every year to raise money for charities., In the past, money was raised for research to fight cancer and leukemia. Students participate in this event by finding sponsors for each hour that they play the game. SWIM-A-THON: The Swim-A-Thon is a twelve hour event that takes place in the spring. It is run by the Swimming and Water Polo teams and is designed to raise money for these two teams. People participate by finding sponsors for each lap that they swim. URBAN AID: Urban Aid is a music concert put on by the Horace Mann Theatre Company to benefit the homeless in New York. Various student music bands play for this worthwhile cause. Students must audition for Urban Aid. GRADUATION: On Wednesday, June 13th, the Class of 2001 will be graduating at 10am on the main field. Past EventsSpanish Spring Fesitival '97 Students and teacher's got together one day last spring, and celebrated the Spanish language and culture. Everybody enjoyed songs, dances, poetry, and delicious food. The web site has information about the event.
