Synthesis
The Technology Integration component of Synthesis trains and supports subject area teachers in integrating technology into their classrooms.
Classroom teachers volunteer to participate as Technology Pilot Teachers in the program. Each teacher is paired with a technologist from the Computer Department. Each pilot teacher attends NECC, the National Educational Computing Conference, at the beginning of his or her first year in the program. Then, in collaboration with the technologist, each teacher develops technology-based activities to be implemented with his or her classes during the coming school year.
Every participating teacher chooses a computer system for his or her classroom and participates in the installation and setup of the computer and software.
The students, pilot teacher and technologist participate in each activity and then collaborate in evaluating it with the goal of revising and improving it for future classes.
One key aspect of this program is that the pilot teachers design activities for their own classes, giving them complete ownership of the projects they design.
A list of the activities designed and implemented to date is available in the complete description and history document available for download in Adobe Acrobat format.
